Arcus vs dYdX: same team, different products

On Arcus vs dYdX, the headline you probably read is wrong. dYdX did not rebrand as Arcus. dYdX’s own announcement says Arcus “was incubated at dYdX Labs” and is “built jointly by dYdX Labs and Robinhood Crypto”, and that “dYdX v4 will continue to be supported”. Two products, one lineage, separate chains and separate tokens.

The rebrand framing spread fast because it is a tidier story than the real one, and because the two names share people. It still gets the substance backwards, and if you hold DYDX or trade on dYdX Chain, the difference is the only part that matters.

What dYdX actually said

The primary source is the dYdX blog post announcing Arcus. Three phrases from it do all the work:

Arcus “was incubated at dYdX Labs”. That is an origin, not a replacement. Incubation describes where a product was built, which is the opposite of a brand swapping its name.

Arcus is “built jointly by dYdX Labs and Robinhood Crypto”. Two parties. A rebrand has one.

“dYdX v4 will continue to be supported and your funds and positions will remain fully accessible on dYdX Chain.” That sentence exists specifically to answer the question a rebrand headline creates.

Arcus describes itself from the other side, as “the next chapter for the team that built dYdX”. A chapter, not a renaming. The team overlaps heavily, which is why the confusion is understandable, and the legal and corporate detail is on what Arcus is.

The DYDX token did not move house

The dYdX Foundation stated that DYDX “is, and remains, the governance and staking token of dYdX Chain”. Nothing in the Arcus announcement changes DYDX’s role, its chain or its staking mechanics.

On the Arcus side there is no token at all. The Arcus help centre says, verbatim, “No, Arcus does not currently have a token.” dYdX has separately said that “an allocation of any future Arcus token will be reserved for the dYdX community”, which is a contemplated token described in conditional language, not an announced one. Sites advertising a confirmed Arcus token contradict the issuer’s own help centre. The full version of that argument is on the Arcus token page, and what does exist, a discretionary points programme, is covered on Arcus points.

One more wrinkle worth naming: a Solana SPL token using the ARCUS ticker is indexed by price aggregators. Since Arcus says it has no token, anything on sale under that ticker is not an official Arcus asset.

What happened to the DYDX price

DYDX ran up ahead of the announcement in early July 2026 and fell after it. The size of the fall depends on which outlet you read: AMBCrypto reported roughly 45%, Cryptopolitan roughly 23%. Those are different measurement windows and reference points rather than a contradiction, and since neither methodology was published, the honest version is a range of about 23% to 45% with the outlet named.

A sell-the-news pattern after a long run-up is the ordinary shape of this kind of move, and the rebrand misreading probably helped it along: holders who believed their token was being retired had a reason to sell that the primary sources did not support.

The design split on Arcus is deliberate: an order book for 190 or more thinly traded equity markets would sit empty most of the day, while market makers can quote an RFQ on demand. Arcus has published its reasoning, and the spot side of it is explained on Arcus Stock Tokens, with the leverage and margin detail on Arcus perps.

The people, which is where the confusion comes from

Eddie Zhang is Arcus’ CEO and founder. He co-founded Pocket Protector in 2024, dYdX Labs acquired it in July 2025, and he became president of dYdX. Antonio Juliano, who founded dYdX, sits on the Arcus board. Robinhood Crypto is a strategic investor in Arcus, though the amount, valuation and round structure are undisclosed everywhere, including Dealroom.

Arcus also says it is not owned by Robinhood: “Arcus is an independent DEX”. Strategic investor and owner are different things, and the distinction gets flattened almost as often as the rebrand one.

Which one is for you

If you want crypto perpetuals and you hold or stake DYDX, dYdX v4 is still the venue, running on its own chain with its own token.

If you want tokenized equity exposure, Arcus is the newer product, and two constraints decide whether it is even an option. Arcus is not available in the United States, the United Kingdom or Canada, plus other restricted jurisdictions named in the Terms. And perps need an invite code, minted at one per $1 million of qualifying volume, non-transferable, which Arcus describes bluntly: the only way to get one is from someone already trading.

The eligibility list is on Arcus countries and the code mechanics on Arcus invite codes. If you are blocked, Arcus alternatives is the more useful page.

Risk, stated plainly

Both venues offer leveraged products that can be liquidated, and most leveraged traders lose money. Arcus Stock Tokens are not shares: no voting rights, no dividend claim as such, and the price can diverge from the underlying. Nothing here is financial advice, and nothing here comes from first-hand trading on either venue. It is read from the published sources listed below as of 2 October 2026.

Questions people ask

Did dYdX rebrand as Arcus?

No. Several outlets wrote that, but dYdX's own post says Arcus was incubated at dYdX Labs and built jointly with Robinhood Crypto, and that dYdX v4 will continue to be supported with funds and positions fully accessible on dYdX Chain.

Is the DYDX token being replaced?

The dYdX Foundation said DYDX is, and remains, the governance and staking token of dYdX Chain. Arcus has no token of its own. The help centre states plainly that Arcus does not currently have a token.

What happened to the DYDX price around the announcement?

DYDX ran up before the announcement and fell after it in early July 2026. The size of the drop differs by outlet: AMBCrypto reported about 45% and Cryptopolitan about 23%, so treat it as a range rather than one figure.

Can I still use dYdX v4?

Yes. dYdX states that v4 will continue to be supported and that funds and positions remain fully accessible on dYdX Chain. It runs independently of Arcus, on a different chain, with a different token.

What is actually different about Arcus?

Arcus trades tokenized US stocks, indices, ETF-based commodities and crypto on Robinhood Chain, using request-for-quote for spot and an order book for perps, with USDG collateral. dYdX v4 is a crypto perps venue on its own chain.

Who connects the two companies?

Arcus CEO Eddie Zhang was president of dYdX after dYdX Labs acquired his company Pocket Protector in July 2025. Antonio Juliano, dYdX's founder, sits on the Arcus board. Robinhood Crypto is a strategic investor in Arcus.
